Hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend! The official kick-off weekend to summer is here. And while it is currently raining here, we have been so busy since Chloe got out of school we are thankful for a lazy day to get caught up. Nolen and I went through and created a monster list of things to do within a one hour radius of home, both things to do and places to eat. I generally start the summer off all excited about doing things we don't have time to do during the school year, but then lose steam on what do to by mid-June. Well, I figured if I made a big list and put it on the fridge, it would help keep us all going.
So our first outing was into the city where we hit the Aquarium, Insecterium, and Cafe du Monde. The girls were not such big fans of the bugs, but we did enjoy walking through and seeing all the butterflies at the Insecterium. Then we just walked across the street and saw everything at the Aquarium. It was really neat watching Courtney's reaction to all the fish this time, as she was old enough to process what she was looking at.
Then on Thursday we just hit up two of our favorite parks in the area. Both Koop Dr. and Paula Cordes are big hits in our family. Even more so when you can go with friends!
Friday Nolen and I packed up the girls and headed east to Gulfport, Mississippi. They have our favorite area children's museum there, so we always make it a point to get there at least once during the summer. The girls had a blast playing in the tree-houses, flying to Africa, shopping, and being vets.
After we were done there, we had a picnic lunch before heading down to the beach for a little time in the sun. I didn't get any pictures of us at the beach, but the girls all love the water. It is amazing to see how fearless Chloe has become with going out and jumping in the waves, and Mallory is there right next to her. It took Courtney a little while to warm up to the sand and water, but once she did there was no stopping her.
We ended the day back at home hanging out in our "pool" in the backyard enjoying the beautiful day.
Saturday morning was pretty quiet, had some family errands to take care of. My favorite is this picture I had to snap at Lowe's. They were all so excited to help Daddy drive the cart around the store, and Courtney wasn't going to let her two big sisters have all the fun. Saturday afternoon we were invited to some friends lakehouse in LaCombe for a big pool party. There were about 30 of us, all together and we had a blast. We were having so much fun I forgot to take a single picture.
Sunday morning was the usual church fun, but Sunday evening we took the girls across the lake to a Babycakes game. The New Orleans Babycakes are the AAA baseball team for the Miami Marlins. Before the game you could go down on the field and play catch. Mallory was the only one who was interested, but she thought it was special being down there before the game even started.
The girls made it through the whole game, with the help of some good snacks along the way, and after the game we got to watch a great firework show and then go run the bases. It was such a fun outing, I'm not sure who enjoyed it more, the girls or me and Nolen.
Monday we just stayed close to home. After a fun a crazy start to summer, we all needed a day or two to recoup and relax. This week I know we are heading to the Stennis Space Center for sure, but we will see what else we get into. Until next time...
